Supporting innovation is no game…

Delighted though I am that Wallace & Gromit will not be relocating to a studio somewhere in Taiwan I have to admit to be more than a little disappointed in the government’s decision to extend tax breaks enjoyed by the film industry to the gaming and animation sector ( (http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/mar/21/budget-2012-tax-breaks-animation-video-games). The big issue here is that the government didn’t go far enough. If you are really going to support  in this country in a way that sews the seeds for long term growth then the government needs to show the same support for the technology industry more broadly. As a partner at Capitalise I get to see some of this innovation first hand. As I watch companies like Pinterest and Instagram become internet sensations almost overnight I keep waiting for a British equivalent. It’s not that they aren’t out there, believe you me they are. Lots of them. We just need to create the right environment for them to thrive. Continue reading
